Listen to Obituary

Dorothy Elaine Jones Scott (Dot Scott) was born in Gideon, Missouri on April 22, 1939. Her parents and two sisters preceded her in death. Southeast Missouri was her home for the first 14 years of her life. She moved to Port Arthur, Texas and met her best friend and the love of her life, Robert Lanis Scott Jr., whom she married on June 6, 1959. He preceded her in death in January of 1959. They had one daughter, Robin, who resides in Wisconsin with four of her five children, Grace, Faith, Corwin and Rebekah. Chase Gober resides in Arlington. She is also survived by two sisters, Carol Lacy and Cathy Jardell. She attended Lamar University in Beaumont on scholarship and completed her education at Texas Christian University ultimately receiving a Masters in Education. She holds a BA in Art Education and a specialization in Gifted Education.

Her early life was one of many challenges from an early age due to curiosity and with varying medical problems, disappointments, and difficulties that were just bumps on the road. Her LOVE and PASSION for teaching, travel and learning gave her the courage to use the talents God had given to her to create-making her life one of discovery-her quest for knowledge is the root of her excellence as a teacher, loving wife and supportive mother and grandmother.

She taught elementary school in Arlington ISD, and elementary/middle school at HEB ISD in Bedford, Texas for 27 years and was instrumental in developing new teaching methods and techniques (all subjects) and was the recipient of numerous awards including runner up Texas State Teacher of the Year in 2004.

Included were her travels within the USA, Alaska, Europe, Russia, South Africa, China and Peru (Rain Forest) where she participated in and conducted educational workshops. With each travel destination-friends were found, new ideas were born to further enrich those she touched through her career. She was a person of deep religious faith, commitment to community and church, and love of her fellow man was her “footprints in the sand.

Thanks to God for setting a path. She rests with God in Peace. Her journey is complete.
