Edith Marie Gray

Edith Marie Satterwhite Gray, 93, of Lakeway, TX, formerly of Friendship Community, Buckholts, and El Campo, TX, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025.

Edith was born on July 1, 1931, to Ure B. and Annie Pearl Walker Satterwhite in the Friendship Community. Her Scotch-Irish-Norwegian ancestors settled the little community and established both the school and the Methodist Church.

Edith attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, and then attended Southwest Texas State Teachers’ College in San Marcos, TX, where she majored in Home Economics. She graduated, married an airman, M.E. ‘Pat’ Norton, and began teaching Home Economics at Sharp High School in Milam County. Edith had two children, Gary and Kristie, while earning her Special Education certificate.

Edith later continued her career in El Campo, TX, teaching at El Campo High School. She eventually met and married Jerry Gray, and gained two stepsons, Todd and Steve. Through Jerry’s work, Edith experienced the adventure of international travel.

After more than 30 years of teaching, Edith retired and returned to live at the farm where she grew up. In 2014, she moved to Lakeway to be near her daughter.

Edith is survived by her daughter, Kristie Norton Dalle, of Spicewood, five granddaughters (Alexandra, Zoe, Brenda, Najaya and Gia), three great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Norton.

Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron, TX. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Friendship United Methodist Church, Buckholts, TX, Rev. Bridget Prescher will officiate.
