Mr. Garry Ben Karber, 67, of Cameron, Texas, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021, at his residence after a very short battle with cancer. A memorial service is planned for April 3, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Cameron, with Rev. Geoff Lightsey officiating. A burial service is planned for June 15 at the Bethany Cemetery in Balko, Oklahoma.
Mr. Karber was born April 6, 1953, in Perryton, Texas, to Leonard and Mabel Lafaun (Gift) Karber. He was a 1971 graduate of Balko High School in Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma Panhandle St. University. He worked for Hergert Ford and Phillips Petroleum.
Mr. Karber was a 4-H Leader for 30 years, and in later years he volunteered for the Cameron Chamber of Commerce. He was Cameron Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year for 2019. He was an active choir member at the First United Methodist Church in Cameron. His hobbies included fishing, ham radio operating, storm chasing, and his love for Star Trek. He was well known for his onion weather forecasting, having been recognized for his talent in this area. By far, his favorite past time was spending time with his three grandchildren and being involved in their activities.
He is survived by his daughter, Micah Holcombe, and husband, Andy, of Cameron; two brothers, Sam Karber and Bob Karber, both of Balko, OK; and one sister, Lula Benton, of Enid, OK. Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Luke, Mackenzie, and James Holcombe. Mr. Karber was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda Karber, on May 17, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Milam County 4-H or Ochiltree County 4-H.
