Madeleine Gelineau Lively

Madeleine Gelineau Lively, a cherished educator and beloved member of her community, passed away on September 24, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on March 27, 1944, in Quebec City, Canada, Madeleine moved to Corsicana, Texas, as an infant. Her early life was shaped by the loss of her father when she was just six years old, after which her mother raised her alongside her three siblings.

Madeleine's academic journey was marked by impressive achievements. A straight-A Honor Student and a proud graduate of Corsicana High School's Class of 1962, she continued her education at North Texas State University, where she received her BA, M.Ed, and completed her Ph.D. (ABD). It was during her college years that she met Glen Roy Lively from Athens, Texas. The two married on January 30, 1965, embarking on a life together that included raising three beloved children: Robert Allyn, Michael Joseph, and Allison Christine.

Her professional career was dedicated to teaching languages, primarily French and Spanish. Throughout her years of service, she taught at several institutions, including Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, T.K. Gorman High School in Tyler, McLean Middle School in Fort Worth, and Arlington High School in Arlington. Madeleine’s passion for education led her to become the Chair of the Department of World Languages and a Professor of French at Tarrant County College. She was also an accomplished author, having published textbooks for language studies and theory, which enriched the lives of many students.

Upon her retirement, Madeleine and Glen settled in Whitney, Texas, at the White Bluff Resort, where she continued to engage with her community. Active members of White Bluff Chapel, Madeleine took part in the choir and became known for her warm spirit and dedication to others. Her leadership extended to her involvement with the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she held the role of honorary Chapter Regent and Vice Regent of the Fort Graham Chapter.

Madeleine is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Campbell Gelineau, Sr.; her mother, Marcelle Dion Gelineau; her sister, Francoise Gelineau; her husband, Glen Roy Lively; and her son-in-law, Patrick Sheldon Sullivan. She leaves behind a loving family, including her brother, Joseph Campbell Gelineau, Jr., and wife Susan; brother, Charles Arthur Gelineau, and wife Suzanne; son Robert Allyn Lively and wife Linda; son Michael Joseph Lively and husband Jeff; daughter Allison Lively Sullivan; granddaughter Emmeline Sullivan Wallace and husband Noah; grandson Campbell Sheldon Sullivan; and grandson Patrick Beck Sullivan.

A memorial gathering will be held in her honor on October 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at White Bluff Chapel, located at 1072 White Bluff Drive, Whitney, Texas. Following this gathering, an inurnment will take place at 11:30 AM.
