Madeline "Sis" Roessler

Madeline Alice “Sis” Roessler, 96, of Westphalia, died Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in a Temple Nursing Center. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia. Father Darrell Kostiha will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westphalia. Rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Church.

Madeline was born September 22, 1927 to Ben and Mary Raabe Hoelscher. She had three brothers and three sisters.  At the age of 6 years old, she went to work for her uncle and aunt, Charles and Odill Kleypas babysitting. This is where she got the name “Sis”.  She attended Westphalia School. After school, she would babysit and later started working in the Kleypas Grocery Store (originally built and operated by her grandfather H.J. Hoelscher).  On October 29, 1946, she married Ralph (Rex) Kasberg and quit working in the store. To this union, two children were born: Carol Kasberg Ordner and Kenneth Kasberg. In 1957 she went to work at the other “STORE”. She worked at the Hering Store in Westphalia for 45 years.  In 1973, her husband Ralph died. She continued to work at the store and managed her farm. On July 14, 1979, she married Lee A. Roessler. In 2001, she retired again from the “STORE”. In 2001, her husband Lee died. Two years later she went to the “STORE” again.  This time she worked at the “OLD STORE” (The original Hoelscher-Kleypas store). It is said by many that nobody could make a better hamburger than “Sis”. In fact, many customers would come by and ask for a “Sis Burger”. She retired again in 2008 and moved to Hearthstone.

She was a member of the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia and a member of the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Westphalia Senior Citizens Group.  She was active with the quilting group. They made several quilts, some of which were sold at the annual picnic in Westphalia.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Klint Kasberg and her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her two children, Carol Ordner and husband Bernard, and Kenneth Kasberg, two grandchildren, Kevin Ordner and Kara Kasberg Hoelscher, four great-grandchildren, Blayne Hoelscher, Kasen Ordner, Riley Hoelscher and Cash Hoelscher.

Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud is in charge of arrangements.
