Matilda R. Castro

Matilda R. Castro, 93, of Waco, died Saturday April 11, 2026 at her residence. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home. Rev. David Booker will officiate. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rosebud.

Mrs. Castro was born in Lockhart on February 24, 1933 to Jose and Eugenia Lara Rodriguez. She grew up in Rosebud and married Frank Castro on September 11, 1957. She worked as a nurse for Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. She was a member of the Rose Society, the Iris Society and Acts Church in Waco. She volunteered at the Acts Church Storehouse and at Shepards Heart Food Pantry.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosie Castro of Waco, her adopted daughter “Sunshine”, two sisters, Janie Ambriz of Rosebud and Betty DeLeon of Temple.

The family would like to thank Providence Hospice for their care of Matilda and also thank her caretakers Rachel Sais and Gloria Guerra.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
