A Legacy of Love Endures 

It is with deep sadness, yet profound gratitude, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, the touchstone of our lives, Peggy Joyce Weathers Rushing, who passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, at the age of 84. 

Peggy was a woman of extraordinary strength and resilience, with a fierce and unwavering love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, and for her family. Faith and family were the cornerstones of her life—a life marked by purpose, courage, and abundant love. She embraced the beauty and adventure of this world with immense passion, cherishing each day she was given. Her devoted children were greatly influenced by that passion and will carry forward the legacy of love that Peggy and her beloved husband, William, so faithfully instilled in each of them. 

Peggy was born in Maysfield, Texas, in the summer of 1941 to Jesse and Emily Weathers. Growing up in the rural farmlands alongside eight siblings, she learned early the value of hard work, perseverance, and determination. Peggy’s natural intelligence, ingenuity, and unwavering grit carried her to a successful career in the oil and gas industry. She possessed a natural gift for leadership and problem-solving and became a valued, respected, and recognized asset to the company with whom she was employed. 

Peggy was also a talented artist. Under the tutelage of her beloved husband, William, she discovered a deep love for painting. Together, they traveled to art shows across the country, sharing their passion for art and winning numerous awards along the way. Their life together was one of partnership, adventure, creativity, and love. 

Peggy found joy in the simple and beautiful things of life: road trips with family, gatherings around a table, sitting on the front porch, singing around a piano, and time spent at the country home she loved so dearly. She treasured the many wonderful friendships she made throughout her life and had a remarkable ability to make people feel loved, welcomed, and valued. 

Her faith was not simply something she believed—it was something she lived. Peggy faithfully served in her local church for many years, participating in the choir, VBS, and Awana. She also spearheaded Widows Inc., a ministry created to encourage, serve, and bless widows in her community. Peggy poured her heart into organizing events and creating opportunities to bring joy and connection to others, and in doing so, she found great purpose and fulfillment. 

Peggy was a remarkable 30-year survivor of metastatic breast-to-bone cancer, baffling her doctors and far surpassing every medical expectation. For decades, she walked the halls of MD Anderson carrying not only her own courage, but also a message of faith and hope to those around her. Her strength, perseverance, and unwavering trust in God were an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Peggy understood the gift of every additional day she was given and never took a moment of this life for granted. She knew that God had blessed her with far more time than anyone could have imagined, and she lived those years with gratitude, purpose, and joy. 

Peggy is preceded in death by the love of her life and devoted husband, William Everett Rushing; her parents, Jesse and Emily Weathers; her siblings, Kathleen Angle, Carlton Horace Weathers, John Weathers, Jesse Curtis (J.C.) Weathers, and Jimmy Weathers; and her beloved grandson, Benjamin Pomales. 

She is survived by her children, Veronica Eberhard (David), Lynette Jones, Sabrina Rushing, Carl Rushing (Tammie), Heather McClintock (Tommy), and Kimberly Pagach (Stephen); her siblings, Mary Harris, Bobbie Pevehouse, and Patricia Patterson; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren, along with countless friends and loved ones whose lives were forever changed by knowing her. 

Peggy's greatest legacy is not found in the things she accomplished, but in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely. She taught her family to be strong, to persevere, to embrace adventure, to cherish one another, and above all, to trust in the goodness and faithfulness of God. She was deeply loved. She will be profoundly missed. And she will be forever held in the hearts of those who were blessed to call her Mom, Grandma/Nana, Sister, Friend, and beloved child of God. 

The family extends our heartfelt gratitude for the decades of exceptional care our mom received at MD Anderson. We are especially thankful to Dr. Mariana Chavez MacGregor for her compassion, expertise, and the special bond she shared with our mom—a relationship we were truly privileged to witness. 

We also extend our deepest appreciation to Hospice Brazos Valley for the attentive, compassionate, and exceptional care they provided during our mom's final days. Their kindness, dignity, and unwavering support brought comfort not only to her, but to our entire family. We will be forever grateful. 

Services will be held at First Baptist Church Cameron on August 8, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10 AM and funeral services will begin at 11 AM. Graveside interment to follow at Pebble Grove Cemetery in Maysfield, Texas.
